
Two have been arrested on a list of charges after several thefts and break ins. On March 28th a business in Carleton Place reported the theft of a commercial motor vehicle for deliveries. Three businesses in Elgin, Westport, and Portland also reported break ins believed to be linked to the stolen vehicle. After a search warrant was executed in Smiths Falls, a 35 year old female and a 32 year old male from Smiths Falls were charged with several offences. An arrest warrant has also been issued for a 23 year old from Carleton Place. The investigation is ongoing.
Amanda Billings, 35 years old and Lucas Young, 32 years old, both from Smiths Falls have been charged with:
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, Criminal Code (CC) 354(1)(a)
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, CC 354(1)(a)
Both of the accused were released at a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville at a later date. The investigation into this matter is on-going.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Darren Westlake, 23 years old from Carleton Place on charges of:
• Theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle, CC 334(a)
• Break and Enter a place, commit indictable offence, CC 348(1)(b) – three counts
• Theft from mail, sent by post, CC 356(1)(a)(i) – three counts
• Theft from mail, a key used by Canada Post, CC 356(a)(a)(iii) – three counts
