The Health Unit is warning about the presence of Xylazine in the already toxic unregulated supply on the local drug scene. If you know a drug user, make sure they know.
Xylazine, also called Tranq, is a sedative that is used on animals and is not approved for human consumption.
It’s appearing in an alarming percentage of Fentanyl seized by police across the country, and the health unit confirms it’s been found in Eastern Ontario too.
They also say that it doesn’t respond to naloxone like Fentanyl does. If you witness an overdose call 9-1-1 right away.
