Cash cropping is something Lansdowne Ontario’s George Horton has a passion for and is well educated in as well, with a degree from the University of Guelph.
Horton has been around many sectors in farming including Dairy, which he has since retired from. Horton says he loves cash cropping and all different aspects of it.
Since retiring as a dairy farmer, Horton got into something he thought would be just for fun and something to do. That “something to do”, has now turned into yet another full time business at Horton Homestead Farms, which involves his family making maple syrup in the sugar bush.
When asked what advice he had for those who would like to get into farming and make it a career, he simply says to be open to anything and everything.
He says cash cropping is something that many can get into to get started. He says the biggest thing anyone can do in any business, is to have a plan, talk to as many people as you can and pencil everything out.
