Brennan Moore claims biggest win of career with Fall Nationals Ogilvie’s Series win at Brockville
By: Tim Baltz
The 15th annual DIRT Outlaw Apparel/King Edward Auto Parts Fall Nationals saw perfect weather and track conditions and plenty of action as always. The debut of the Midget STR division put on some great racing along with all other classes, which produced a list of drivers who claimed their first ever Fall Nationals win.
The Midget STR class saw 358 Modified stand out Yan Bussiere lead early on with Carl Labonte and rookie Jacob Nault right there with them. Bussiere and Labonte put on a fantastic side by side battle for the lead as the field ran great throughout the 20 lap event. Labonte took the lead briefly from Bussiere on lap 6 before the veteran regained the top spot a couple of laps later. Ludovik Guillemette slowed with a problem in turn two bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart with 6 to go Bussiere would fend off the challenges of Labonte, who ran the inside lane perfectly and tried several times to take the lead. After many years of trying, “The Sharkman” Yan Bussiere would finally add his name to the list of Fall Nationals champions, claiming the win in the debut for the Midget STR class. Labonte would cross in second over Jacob Nault, Carl Brisebois and Modified veteran Pierre Hebert.
The 30 lap Mini Stock invitational saw a record field of 30 cars take the green flag and the story of the day was veteran Marc Dagenais who took the lead on lap 8 with Brighton Speedway regular Tommy Bailey, Tyler Lamarche, Christopher Cordeau and Brockville Track Champion Brandon MacMillan completing the top 5 early on. Dagenais had without a doubt, the fastest car on the race track, as not even lapped cars were slowing his pace. Behind him Bailey and Lamarche were in a spirited battle for second as Cordeau tried to keep pace in the number 4 position. As the laps clicked off all30 cars remained on track, but not many were left on the lead lap as Dagenais had lapped up to the top 10 and was well on his way to the win. With 5 to go, Dagenais slowed on the backstretch briefly, allowing Bailey to get the lead, bringing Lamarche to the runner up spot. On lap 21 the first and only caution flew, which bunched the field up for a key restart. When the green flew it was Bailey in control, but Marc Dagenais was back in gear and on the charge, taking second from Lamarche, then closed in on leader Tommy Bailey. On lap later, Dagenais found himself in front and decided now is the time to check out. In his 5th career start in the Mini Stock race, Marc Dagenais would cross the line to win the event for the very first time at The BOS. Bailey held on for second with Mathieu Voghell coming home 3rd while Travis Lamarche and Jeremie Goyette completed the top 5.
The first of 9 championships were set to be decided in the 50 lap Ogilvie’s Sportsman Triple Crown Series. Bobby Herrington and Shane Pecore came into the evening tied for the point lead and both seeking their second series titles. Gabriel Cyr was the dominant driver in the early laps as he led the way over Brennan Moore and Adam Rozon. Cyr was fast in the beginning but Brennan Moore would use home track advantage a few laps later, as he snuck by on the inside lane to take the top spot away with Oswego Super Dirt Week Pole sitter Nick Root making his way to third in his first visit o the speedway. Nearing the halfway point Moore had pulled to a big lead while behind him Gabriel Cyr was trying his best to fend off three-time Brockville Speedway track champion Bobby Herrington and Nick Root and Ogilvie’s title contender Shane Pecore made his way to 5th. With 20 laps remaining Moore would find himself in yet another battle with Herrington as they both put on a great battle for the top spot, despite having to battle through slower traffic. The caution would fly with 10 to go setting up a great finish. Moore would grab the lead as the field hit turn 1 and two with Herrington right there to challenge for the remainder of the night. The top 2 would pull away from Cyr, Root and the battle for 5th with Jessica Power and Shane Pecore. In the final laps Moore would once again have to deal with slower traffic, but the Elgin Ontario native would not be denied as he scored his first ever Ogilvie’s Series win and his first Fall Nationals triumph. Herrington settled for second, which was also good enough to lock up his second straight Ogilvie’s title. Gabriel Cyr, Shane Pecore and Nick Root would complete he top 5.
Josh Powers would lead the charge in the early laps of the 25 lap Vintage feature with veteran Jason Riddell right there on his back bumper in the opening laps. Riddell would finally get the chance to get by for the lead just past the halfway point and seemed to be well on his way to his second straight Fall Nationals win. On lap 13 that all changed as he broke while leading, handing the lead back to Powers. On a restart Powers started to run away, but a new contender emerged as Matt Barbour made his way to the runner up spot and began his charge to the front of the field with Gavin Riddell, Doug Gordon and Ian Gordon completing the top 5. On lap 20 the final yellow flew, setting up a great finish. When the green came back out Powers showed the way, but Barbour was really good on the bottom and showed it, as he took over the lead with 4 laps remaining. After several wins at many tracks in the Vintage ranks, the former karting stand out would finally score his first Brockville win and first at the Fall Nationals. Powers settled for another runner up finish in the event, with Gavin Riddell Doug Gordon and Steve Billings completing the top 5. The event also saw a great battle with the 50/60 division and Pete Stapper would hold off a late race charge from Jens Mortensen to claim his first Fall Nationals crown, with Jeff Cledgett, Joey Hilts and club points leader Greg Hale in 5th.
The PM Promotions DIRTCar Pro Stocks saw 22 drivers take the green flag and it was a great battle at the front of the field all night long. Track champion Tyler Bushey led early on over veteran Jocelyn Roy and Marc Lalonde. Behind the leaders Blayne Nichols was running a solid 4th with Kevin Fetterly Jr, defending race winner, right behind him in 5th and looking to become a repeat champion at the Fall Nationals. Roy would take over the lead on lap 14 and was looking like the dominant driver, but both Bushey and Lalonde were not going away, as they continued their run at a possible victory. Despite a few mid race cautions, the race up front did not change and neither did the intensity level as Roy Bushey and Lalonde traded lanes on the race track with Roy remaining up front and in control. Over the final 5 laps, Jocelyn Roy did everything right and would cross the line after the 30 lap race, in the top spot and finally claim a Brockville Speedway win. Lalonde would get by Bushey for 2nd by .002 seconds with veteran Denis Gauvreau and Dakota Sharp rounding out the top 5.
Earlier in the night a special 10 lap dash for cash for the DIRTCar 358 Modifieds took to the speedway with the top 10 fastest drivers from the hot lap sessions doing battle. Johnathon Ferguson would out run Brian McDonald for the $400 victory. McDonald also received a $500 bonus for setting overall fast time on the night.
Night number two takes center stage for the DIRT Outlaw Apparel King Edward Auto Parts Fall Nationals on Saturday. The DIRTCar 358 Modified and Ogilvie’s Series Champions will be decided with a 100 lap $10,000 to win event along with the DIRTCar Sportsman Series crow up for grabs with a 50 lapper. Also the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club will decided two titles each for the 50/60 and 70/80 classes. If that weren’t enough, the Southern Ontario Sprint Car Series will also decide their 2023 series champion. The night will also feature a 30 lap Street Stock championship event.
Hot laps are set to begin at 3pm with the first heat race to go green at 4pm.

Corey Wheeler claims first career DIRTCar 358 Modified Series win in Brockville Fall Nationals Finale
By: Tim Baltz
Night number two of the DIRT Outlaw Apparel/King Edward Auto Parts Fall Nationals saw another packed pit area and a packed grandstand. Championships were on the line for the DIRTCar 358 Modified and DIRTCar Sportsman Series along with the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series, making for some exciting racing all night long.
Feature action began with a milestone event at the 15th annual Fall Nationals as Just Ramsay led a field of 25 Street stocks to the green flag over Cory White and Stephane Phillippe. Several yellow flags slowed the event but that didn’t phase Ramsay one bit as he held the top spot for the entire 30 lap event, behind him Tod Raabe was representing the Brockville Speedway regulars as he held on to second with Brighton regulars Tyler French, Brock Gregory and Adam Wells were putting the pressure on the veteran. With 10 laps to go Justin Ramsay was well out in front and would go unchallenged to score his 3rd career Fall Nationals Street Stock championship. Todd Raabe, Brock Gregory, Tyler French and Adam Wells complete the top 5. The win put Ramsay on top of the all time win list with 3, breaking a tie with Wade Purchase and Adam Turner. Ramsay was also honored with a special award, having taken the checkered flag in the 100th feature event ever held during the Fall Nationals event, which began back in 2009.
The Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club began their 25 lap contest with a scary incident on the initial green flag. Veteran Greg Hale who was crowned the 50/60 Club champion earlier in the night, flipped his car down the front stretch and the red flag was displayed. Hale would climb out uninjured but the car suffered heavy damage. When the 2nd attempt at a star took place, it was Josh Powers in front of the field with Friday night winner Matt Barbour and Steve Billings right there with him. The 50/60 battle for the lead saw Pete Stapper and Steve Barber go at it with Barber getting the top spot early on. The 70/80 cars were dominant as Powers, Barbour and Steve Billings were all in a great battle for the win, with Powers in control. On lap 18 the yellow flew forcing another restart. The green flew for the final time and Powers would not be denied as he scored his first ever Fall Nationals win, joining his dad Jason as a Fall Nationals champion. Barbour crossed in second with Steve Billings, Jason Riddell and Gavin Riddell in the top 5. Steve Barber was able to hold off the challenge from Pete Stapper to win his first Fall Nationals crown. Xavier Perin finished third with Chris Wilson and Joey Hilts making up the top 5.
The Southern Ontario Sprint Car Series would hold their season finale for the very first time at Brockville. Jordan Poirier was the dominant force early on and looking to join his Uncle Steve as a Fall Nationals champion. Poirier led the way over Ryan Turner, Darren Dryden, Shone Evans and Matt Billings. Poirier was literally on auto pilot, but Shone Evans was determined to get to the front. Evans would make a run to second on lap 15 and closed in on the leader. A quick yellow bunched the field up for the final restart, giving Evans one final shot at victory. When the green flew Jordan Poirier go the jump he wanted as he pulled away over the final laps to secure his first Fall Nationals title in 360 Sprint car action. Shone Evans, Ryan Turner, Darren Dryden and Matt Tanner completed the top 5.
The DIRTCar 358 Modified Series finale was set for 100 laps next. Mat Williamson claimed the DIRTCar 358 Modified Series title by taking the green in the feature event. Track champion Ryan Arbuthnot had some work to do for the Ogilvie’s 358 Modified title, with an 18 point lead on Kyle Dingwall. Racing action was intense during the event with Sportsman star William Racine holding the lead over Erick Rudolph and Ryan Arbuthnot. Racine was fast early and pulled out to a big lead over the rest of the field. As the laps clicked off Erick Rudolph used his experience to close in on Racine, but he had help in the form of a yellow flag as Alex Pyne dropped off the pace on the back stretch. On the restart Racine led the way but it was Rudolph who flexed his muscle. The three-time series champion got by Racine and began to pull away, as Ryan Arbuthnot, Corey Wheeler and Mat Williamson became a part of the battle. Williamson had the title locked up and was charging forward as he took second from Arbuthnot and closed in on Rudolph. Things started to get tense at the front as Williamson and Rudolph battled hard trading paint at times but Rudolph remained in control. A lap 75 yellow would see things change quickly, which shook up the top 3 cars. Rudolph would get the lead again with Williamson close by while Corey Wheeler remained in 3rd. With 15 laps to go Williamson and Rudolph made contact with both drivers nearly crashing. This allowed Corey Wheeler to get by and pull away from the field. Despite a yellow on lap 92. Corey Wheeler would play the final restart perfect as he drove away to score his first career DIRTCar 358 Modified Series win and his 2nd ever Fall Nationals championship in the process. The win was also Wheeler’s second in the Ogilvie’s Series. Williamson crossed in second and crowned the DIRTCar 358 Series champion. Ryan Arbuthnot finished third, good enough to claim the Ogilvie’s title, with Kyle Dingwall and Brian McDonald the top 5.
Andrew Buff clinched the 2023 DIRTCar Sportsman Series crown by making his time trial attempt but the racing action was still intense all race long. Nick Root, who continued his strong weekend drew the pole for the race and led the way over Brockville regular Shane Stearns, Zach Sobotka, Tristan Ladouceur and Bobby Herrington. Root was fast early but charging to the front was Sobotka. The Parish New York native made his way to second in traffic, as Shane Stearns saw his night end early after a tangle with a lapped car forced him to the infield and eventually to the pits. On the restart Sobotka used his experience to take the lead on the outside lane with Root and Herrington right there to challenge. Sobotka then began to open up a big lead leaving Root, Herrington, Ladouceur and Andrew Buff to battle amongst themselves. On lap 30 Andrew Buff would lose control and spin in turn 4, which caused a 12 car pile up in turn 4. Jordan Wood received the most damage to his front end and was done for the night. Sobotka would continue in the number one spot on the restart with Root and Herrington behind him, while Jessica Power continued her march to the front in the closing laps. On lap 41 a scary moment saw Tyler Stewart slam the wall off turn 4 and flipping over on the front stretch. Stewart climbed out of his car unhurt, but a top 10 run was gone away for the night. On the final restart Zach Sobotka was on point and held off Nick Root to score his second Series win of the year and first Fall Nationals title. Nick Root, Bobby Herrington, Jessica Power and Tristan Ladouceur completed the top 5.
The 15th annual DIRT Outlaw Apparel/King Edward Auto Parts Fall Nationals and the 2023 racing season at the Brockville Ontario Speedway is now in the record books. The staff and management thanks everyone, from the sponsors, drivers, the teams and especially the race fans, for making this year a special one. The Staff and Management, wish everyone a great off season and look forward to seeing everyone in 2024.
