Those who travel across the border normally have to wait and cross the bridge to fill their gas tanks, grab a bite to eat or even grab a cold drink.
Not anymore. The newly established Wellesley Island Market located just minutes from the US Mainland and Canadian Border, is one of the few, year-round businesses open on the island.
The Durand family, who also operates Wellesley Island Building Supply, purchased the property, formerly known as Fine View Market in 2022 and with help of all brothers and family, have turned the store into a popular spot for those crossing the border or going to work.
Jim Durand says the store has everything you’ll need, if you’re crossing to the United States or even going to the nearby campgrounds for a family vacation.
Gas pumps are available along with a full deli and ice cream walk up window. Shoppers can also purchase wine liquor and beer at the same prices you would find at any store across the Thousand Islands Bridge. They also have your favorite snacks and grocery items available at any time of the day.
Durand added that it has been fun, we took a chance and we are having fun doing it, mainly because we got to work with our family everyday.
