If you’re looking for something to do with the family this Family Day long weekend, why not go bird watching!
The Nature Conservancy of Canada is encouraging everyone to get out and take part in the 27th annual Great Backyard Bird Count.
The count takes place every year in February. But why ask everyone to go outside when it’s cold? Andrew Holland of the NCC told myFM why that is.
This free event runs from Friday the 16 to Monday the 19.
To take part you can go out in your own backyard, or if you don’t have a backyard, head to your favourite trail, park or green space. If you don’t want to go alone, Holland suggests joining a nature group.
For beginners, they recommend you try using the Merlin Bird ID app to tell them what birds you are seeing or hearing. If you have participated in the count before and want to record numbers of birds, you can try the eBird Mobile appĀ or enter your bird list on the eBird website.
