Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Michael Barrett is echoing sentiments of other opposition MPs when it comes to Tuesday’s Federal Budget.
And he says it simply doesn’t help the bottom line of Canadians, especially with other recently enacted measures.
Barrett says one of the main reasons why the budget doesn’t go far enough is because federal dollars are tied up elsewhere.
When it comes to the riding of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands & Rideau Lakes, Barrett was hoping that Bill C-234 would be included that would remove the carbon tax from all on-farm heating and cooling.
Ultimately, the MP says it would have been a good move for food producers in Leeds and Grenville and beyond.
Making that move, he says, would ultimately lower the taxes through the entire food production and delivery system, thus lowering the cost of food, or at minimum freeze it. He promises to keep pressing for Bill C-234 to pass the house in the interest of all Canadians.
Overall, MP Barrett called the contents and omissions in the budget a “depressing bit of news.” But he does say there’s good news coming, from his party’s perspective.
