
Frontenac OPP have provided an update this morning following Tuesday’s fatal collision on Highway 401. They shared OPP members responded to a traffic complaint for a vehicle traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 west of Kingston.
Just after 12:35 pm Tuesday, a two-vehicle crash happened on Highway 401. Several lanes were blocked, and both drivers had to be rescued from their cars. They were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
“A 41-year-old female, from Kingston, was the driver of the vehicle traveling the opposite direction, which resulted in being fatally injured in this collision,” said the release from OPP.
Frontenac OPP, with help from Lennox & Addington OPP, Kingston Fire Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics, Kingston Police, and the Ministry of Transportation, investigated the incident. OPP Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigators were on scene, leading to the highway being closed for eight hours.
“The investigation will continue with the assistance of the Coroners Office of Ontario. No charges have been laid to date.”

UPDATE June 25, 4:30PM: The OPP estimate the eastbound lanes will remain closed for another 3 hours for the investigation. they have also shared this clarification, “The wrong-way sport utility vehicle collided head-on with another sport utility vehicle. One driver remains in critical condition. The other has been upgraded and injuries are no longer considered life-threatening. A child in one of the vehicles was not seriously hurt but was transported to hospital.”

UPDATE June 25, 3:03PM: The OPP have shared that they’re investigating a head-on collision. A vehicle was travelling west in the eastbound lanes, west of Gardiners Rd when it collided with a transport. 2 people have been transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There is a detour off at CR-6 north to Mud Lake Road east to CR-38 south, then back to Hwy 401.
