The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville has secured final approval for a vital supportive housing project in Brockville aimed at addressing chronic homelessness.
The initiative, funded by $3.1 million from Ontario’s Homeless Prevention Program, will see 25 cabins constructed, offering temporary stabilization for those in need as they transition to long-term housing.
Warden Nancy Peckford and Joint Services Committee Chair Mayor Brant Burrow expressed gratitude to MPP Steve Clark and the Ontario government for their support.
Brockville’s Mayor Matt Wren welcomed the project, noting its importance for the community’s most vulnerable citizens.
The John Howard Society will oversee the cabins, providing 24/7 supervision and essential services.
The cabins are expected to be ready by November 2024, offering much-needed relief as the community faces limited housing resources.
