In July, a joint investigation by the Correctional Service of Canada, Ontario Provincial Police-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad, and Kingston Police Intelligence Unit targeted a Correctional Officer suspected of smuggling contraband into Collins Bay Institution. On August 20, the investigation led to the arrest of the 38-year-old officer on the institution’s grounds, where he was found with drugs, knives, and other contraband intended for distribution.
The officer faces charges including mischief endangering life, breach of trust, and possession for the purpose of trafficking. A 33-year-old inmate has also been charged with mischief endangering life. The officer has been released from Kingston Police custody with a court date, while the inmate remains in federal custody.
The investigation resulted in the seizure of 235 grams of cannabis shatter, 505 grams of cannabis, 6 grams of MDMA, 55 grams of tobacco, five knife blades, a cell phone charger, and a digital scale, valued at approximately $320,000
