The Swing Bridge on Water Street in Gananoque has been on everyone’s mind since it was closed in early August after significant rainfall. Mayor John Beddows says the bridge is not just closed because of the sinkhole from the rain, but for other planned work.
Beddows says bridge itself is safe, but engineers have determined the roadway leading up to the bridge was the main issue.
Beddows says him and the Town Staff are working with engineers to get pedestrians and cyclists back on the bridge.
He adds the work currently being done was scheduled to not interfere with tourism season but due to the sinkhole, the plans were moved ahead. He also understands the frustrations that local businesses are facing in this area with the bridge closed.
