On February 26th officials from Providence Care and the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF), along with local politicians and community donors, celebrated the opening of AB Smith Homestead House, Kingston’s first hospice. The facility, located at 152 Phillips Street, aims to fulfill the community’s long-standing goal of expanding end-of-life palliative care services.
The 10-bed hospice will offer 24-hour compassionate care in a home-like environment, with features like private suites, family gathering areas, and a spiritual room. It is set to welcome its first patients in mid-March.
The $12.9 million project received $11.1 million in local donations and was named in honor of Arthur Britton Smith and Homestead Land Holdings for their outstanding generosity.
“This hospice stands as a symbol of our shared commitment to care,” said Peter Kingston, campaign chair. The facility is a testament to the community’s generosity and dedication to compassionate end-of-life care.
