
The Brockville & District Chamber of Commerce has announced Shelley Bacon as the recipient of the 2025 Lifetime Business Achievement Award. Bacon, the founder of Northern Cables in 1996, has grown the company from a small operation into a major industry player, employing 300 people and manufacturing power cables for both Canadian and U.S. markets.
Bacon’s leadership goes beyond business success; he’s deeply involved in the community. He serves as Chair of the St. Lawrence Economic Corridor Commission and as a director for various local organizations, including the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health Board and the Rideau St. Lawrence Science Fair Committee. Additionally, Bacon has contributed to fundraising for Maple View Landings in Athens, showcasing his dedication to both professional and personal community service.
Bacon’s commitment to community involvement and business leadership has earned him several accolades, including the Business Person of the Year award in 2021. He will be honored at a ceremony following the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting on March 27, 2025, at the Brockville Country Club. The 1000 Islands Community Development Corporation sponsors the award, recognizing individuals who make lasting impacts on the community.
Previous recipients include George Tackaberry, Larry VanderBaaren, Joe Hudson, Paul Fournier, Hunter Grant, Gord Brown, David Beatty, Bob Runciman, Al Smith, Dave Sheridan, Don Green, Sherri Simzer, John & Steve Mazurek, and Dave Jones.
