
On May 9th, Richard Pawley, a 73-year-old inmate at Joyceville Institution, passed away in custody due to apparent natural causes.
At the time of his death, Pawley had been serving a sentence of 2 years, 8 months, and 20 days, which began on April 18, 2024.
In line with Correctional Service Canada (CSC) policy, the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death will be thoroughly reviewed.
The police and coroner have been notified as required by CSC regulations.
An official investigation will be conducted, and the review aims to ensure that all protocols were followed.
The correctional facility has expressed its commitment to fully cooperate with the ongoing inquiry.
