
Leeds OPP are investigating after human remains were discovered on an island in the St. Lawrence River near the Town of Gananoque. The report came in on the morning of Monday, May 19, around 10 a.m., when an individual contacted police after making the discovery.
At this time, the identity of the deceased is unknown, and it is unclear how long the individual has been deceased. A postmortem examination will be conducted to help determine further details.
The OPP states there is no indication of a threat to public safety.
The Leeds OPP Crime Unit is leading the investigation in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. OPP Forensic Identification Services is also assisting.
