Gananoque Town Council has suspended Mayor John Beddows’ pay for 80 days and ordered him to issue a formal written apology to Town staff following an Integrity Commissioner (IC) investigation. At the May 20, 2025 Town Council Meeting in Gananoque, Integrity Commissioner Tony Fleming presented findings detailing misconduct, including harassment of the CAO, discriminatory comments, a sexual joke, and aggressive behaviour.
The penalties included a 30-day suspension for harassment, another 30 days for discriminatory remarks, five days for the inappropriate joke, and 15 days for aggressive conduct. Council unanimously passed a motion to accept the recommendations, suspend remuneration, and publish the report publicly on the town’s website.
Council emphasized the importance of accountability and professionalism in municipal leadership.
