A construction worker suffered life-threatening injuries after a concrete staircase collapsed at a building site located at 1481 Windsor Drive on May 28, 2025. Emergency crews responded to a 911 call around 12:30 p.m., reporting that part of a staircase had given way, trapping the worker in the stairwell.
The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, including Leeds & Grenville Paramedics, Brockville Fire Department, Brockville General Hospital staff, Ottawa Fire Service, Ornge Air Paramedics, and others. Due to concerns about the building’s structural integrity, crews worked together for several hours to safely extract the trapped worker.
The injured individual was airlifted by Ornge to Kingston General Hospital in critical condition. Police remain on scene as an investigation is underway in coordination with the Ministry of Labour. Authorities have extended their gratitude to all emergency responders for their swift and coordinated efforts during this serious workplace incident.
