The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands (TLTI) has proudly donated $900 and a variety of non-perishable food items to two local food banks following the success of its annual Touch-a-Truck event.
On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Township representatives presented cheques to the R.O.L.L. Aid Food Bank and the Gananoque and Area Food Bank. The funds were raised during the event’s popular community BBQ, and along with food donations collected from attendees and staff, were equally shared between the two organizations.
“The Touch-a-Truck event not only brought the community together for a fun and educational experience, it also gave the Township an opportunity to support our local food banks in a meaningful way. I wish to thank the Township Public Works, Fire Service and Administration staff who worked so hard to organize such a wonderful event.”
“I also would like to thank the Town of Gananoque’s Public Works and Fire Department, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville’s Public Works and Paramedics Service and the O.P.P Leeds Detachment for once again joined the Township’s Public Works and Fire Service departments in participating in the event” said Mayor Corrina Smith-Gatcke. “Council and staff are grateful to everyone who attended, donated, and contributed to the success of this initiative.”
Held annually during Public Works Week, Touch-a-Truck allows residents to explore public works and emergency vehicles up close. This year’s event included hands-on displays, take-home activity bags, children’s TLTI-branded safety vests, and a BBQ—all in support of local food security.
