Thirteen local entrepreneurs are launching or growing their businesses this summer through two cornerstone programs supported by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville: Summer Company and Starter Company Plus.
On June 10, dignitaries, mentors, and supporters gathered at the Prescott Town Hall Grand Room to celebrate the 25th year of Summer Company and welcome participants to both programs.
“It’s a milestone year for the Summer Company’s program that contributes to the economic growth of the Counties,” said Carol Hardy, Small Business Development Officer. “Our programs are about more than business training—they’re about building confidence, fostering innovation, and connecting entrepreneurs to a community that believes in their success.”
Summer Company supports youth in starting and running a business over the summer with a $3,000 grant, training, and mentorship. This year’s participants include Carter Leduc (1000 Islands Property Care), Owen Henderson (Rim to Rim Detailing), James Richardson (James Richardson Lawn Maintenance), and Lincoln BevAcqua (Astronomical Clothing Co.).
Starter Company Plus supports adult entrepreneurs through training, planning, and potential $5,000 grants. This year’s participants represent diverse businesses such as I/O Tech, Nature’s Hum Clothing, Practical Magic, Curran Reading Corner, Spicy Riffs Hot Sauce, Lyfstyle Training & Consulting, Eden’s Refuge, LightWater Sanctuary, and Meringue Patisserie.
These programs are funded by the Province of Ontario, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, and the City of Brockville, and help build a stronger regional economy by fostering sustainable local businesses.
