An unplanned service disruption has been issued for Joel Stone Beach in Gananoque due to elevated levels of E. coli found in the water. The health unit identified the issue on June 27, and cautionary signage has been posted by town staff warning users to swim at their own risk.
While the beach area is affected, the nearby splash pad remains open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and public washrooms will continue operating from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Town notes that 24 local beaches are monitored weekly from the end of June to the end of August, with results updated every Friday at healthunit.org.
There is currently no estimated time for when the advisory will be lifted, and no alternative swim locations have been provided.
The Town of Gananoque appreciates residents’ patience and will continue to monitor the situation alongside the health unit.
