The Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands has assumed ownership of a vacant property at 673 Sand Bay Road after no bids were received during a tax sale held on June 12. Council approved vesting the land and writing off $11,002.06 in unpaid taxes during Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting. Councilor Terry Fodey agreed with the move to retain it.

The move follows provisions under the Municipal Act, allowing municipalities to take ownership of unsold tax-sale properties. The land, zoned rural and near a Provincially Significant Wetland, will now be tax-exempt. Township staff say the property could offer future benefits for drainage or potential road realignment if needed. The motion was carried unanimously.
