People are getting fined $305 for smoking near patios — here’s how to avoid it
Patio season has officially started, and public health officials are reminding people to keep the air smoke-free. Smoking or vaping — including cannabis — is not allowed within nine metres of any restaurant or bar patio.
This rule helps everyone enjoy the fresh air and protects the health of customers, staff, and the public. People caught smoking or vaping too close to a patio could be fined $305.
The Smoke-Free Ontario Act makes it illegal to smoke or vape in many outdoor public spaces, including near patios. It’s part of a wider effort to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke and vapour.
