Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for Gananoque and the surrounding region, with hot and humid conditions expected to continue through Thursday night.
Daytime highs will range from 29 to 32°C, with humidex values reaching 35 to 40. Overnight lows between 19 and 23°C will offer little relief, especially for vulnerable individuals.
Health officials urge residents to stay cool and hydrated, limit time outdoors, and check on those at higher risk, including older adults, young children, and people with pre-existing conditions.
Early signs of heat exhaustion can include headache, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue. Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone shows symptoms like confusion, red skin, or fainting, call 9-1-1 immediately and take steps to cool them down.
Use air conditioning or visit public cooling centres if needed, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
