A prolonged period of extreme heat and humidity continues across Gananoque and the Thousand Islands, with daytime highs ranging from 31 to 34°C and humidex values reaching 42. Overnight temperatures remain warm at 19 to 21°C, offering little relief. The heat wave is expected to persist through Thursday, with a cooler airmass arriving Thursday night.
Health officials urge residents to take precautions, as extreme heat can affect everyone, particularly older adults, those living alone, and other vulnerable individuals. Early signs of heat-related illness include headache, nausea, dizziness, dark urine, and fatigue. In cases of suspected heat stroke—marked by confusion, red or hot skin, or unconsciousness—call 9-1-1 immediately.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, stay in cool areas, limit outdoor activity, and check on at-risk neighbours. Pets and children should never be left in parked vehicles.
