The lockdown at Joyceville Institution, initiated on July 11, has now been lifted, and the facility has resumed normal operations, including inmate visits.
An exceptional search conducted during the lockdown led to the discovery and seizure of various contraband and unauthorized items. These included marijuana, tobacco, edged weapons, tattoo paraphernalia, and materials used to produce alcohol.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) states it continues to strengthen its efforts to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions. These measures are aimed at maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. CSC also works closely with police to investigate and act against individuals attempting to smuggle prohibited items into correctional facilities.
