Gananoque Council will hold a special meeting on July 24th to review a proposal to establish a passenger bus loading and unloading zone adjacent to Town Hall at 30 King Street East. The plan involves a six-month pilot project with FlixBus, a private company offering intercity transit service between Ottawa and Toronto.
If approved, FlixBus would make four daily stops in Gananoque—two eastbound and two westbound—operating Thursdays through Mondays from July 31, 2025, to January 14, 2026. The designated bus stop area is currently a no-parking zone, meaning no loss of public parking spaces. Existing signage poles would be used for FlixBus information and QR codes for ticketing and schedule tracking.
Public Works has expressed concerns about traffic flow on nearby narrow streets and recommends a traffic study. The Farmers’ Market, held Thursdays in the area, may also face scheduling conflicts. Emergency services have no major objections but note some challenges with bus route turns.
Council will weigh the community benefits against these logistical issues before making a final decision. If implemented, the project could offer new transit options for Gananoque residents and visitors.
