Leeds and the Thousand Islands Fire Service is expressing gratitude to all who assisted during a cottage fire on Ash Island on Sunday. While the cottage was a total loss, no injuries were reported.
In a social media post, the department thanked the Gananoque Fire Service for supplying a boat and crew, as well as Rideau Lakes Fire & Rescue and Front of Yonge Fire for standing by. Island residents also contributed by using personal boats and fire pumps to help prevent the spread of ground fires.
Special thanks were extended to the Canadian Coast Guard for managing marine traffic.
Residents with fire pumps are reminded to ensure they’re in good working order. Dates for upcoming fire pump clinics, hosted by Leeds Fire Services and the Thousand Islands Association, will be posted on the township’s website and social media.
