A special event was held this past Saturday night at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. The Empire Super Sprints were in town but also $2000 was on the line for the DIRTcar Sportsman division and St. Andrew’s Shane Pecore notched the win. He talked about the battle for track points leader Bobby Herrington.
Pecore had some high praise for the track crew after the win.
He said experience paid off as his dream season continues.

Another great night of racing at the Brockville Ontario Speedway this past Saturday night with LA Knapp Construction on hand and the second visit of the Empire Super Sprints. The DIRTcar Sportsman division featured a 30 lap special for a few extra dollars on the line and an exciting Mini Stock event, that had fans cheering from start to finish.
Two of the best in DIRTcar Sportsman racing paced the field to the start of the 30 lap event. Shane Pecore grabbed the lead from the pole over Bobby Herrington and Jessica Power. These three drivers started to pull away in the early laps, with Sylvain Dupuis and Xavier Andrews making it a 5 way battle up front. Pecore was using the top in turn 1 and 2 then the bottom in turns 3 and 4 to hold Herrington at bay, as Herrington continued to put on the pressure. Fire Swamp brought out the first yellow for a spin off turn 3. When the green flew Pecore continued to lead with Herrington right on the back bumper, as Sylvain Dupuis continued his strong run taking third from Jessica Power. As the laps wound down Pecore had a great handling car and even with a few late race cautions which slowed the pace of the event, Shane Pecore would march on to collect his 2nd win in just his third start of the season and 30th at Brockville, becoming the 4th driver to reach that plateau, plus $2000 in his pocket. Bobby Herrington, Sylvain Dupuis, Jessica Power and Xavier Andrews completed the top 5.
The second and final visit of the season for the Empie Super Sprints saw a familiar face at the front of the field. Former 358 Modified track champion Rick Wilson drew the pole and took the lead early over Trevor Years and Paulie Colagiovanni. Wilson would hold the lead for the opening three laps until a quick yellow bunched up the field for a restart, which played out perfect for Colagiovanni. The green came back out and Paulie Colagiovanni went straight to the top and drove by Wilson with Jason Barney, Trevor Years and Davie Franek moving to 5th. Once in front Paulie Colagiovanni would put on a display of driving talent, not seen in many seasons in 360 Sprint Cars. The Brewerton New York native built up nearly a half track lead as Davie Franek made his way to second and was is need of a yellow to have a shot at the leader. Even in lapped traffic Paulie Colagiovanni was not to be denied on this night as he finally got the Denny Peebles owned ride to victory lane, his first at Brockville and first of the Empire Super Sprint season. Davie Franek crossed 2nd over Jordan Poirier, Dylan Swernik and LA Knapp Incorporated Dash Winner Joe Trenca, who finished 5th.
The night was completed by an exciting 25 lap Mini Stock Special, a series between drivers from Cornwall and Brockville Speedways. In the opening laps Cornwall regulars Travis Lamarche and Antoine Dumouchel led the way in a side by side battle, with Brockville regulars Jamie Larocque and Mike Saunders side by Side for 3rd and 4th, with Brockville regular Max Steele 5th. These 5 drivers put on a great display of driving talent as they battled like this for the opening 9 laps, before Lamarche got the lead on lap 10. Just past half way Lamarche continued to lead but 2022 Brockville champion Jamie Larocque was on the move taking over second as Dumouchel started to fade in the later stages. Over the final laps Lamarche and Larocque battled side by side for the win. On the final lap Larocque did everything he could to get by on the bottom as the top two raced wheel to wheel. At the line Travis Lamarche would grab the win by 0.133 seconds, to become the 6th different winner in 6 races. Larocque crossed a close 2nd over Mike Saunders, Antoine Dumouchel and points leader Clayton Celovsky, who rebounded from early race struggles to finish in 5th.
Next week a packed card of racing will see the DIRTcar 358 Modified and DIRTcar Sportsman plus Novice Sportsman, Street Stocks and Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints, the Mini Stocks have the night off. The Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club will also make their third appearance of the year Saturday night. Racing starts at 7pm.
