Cataraqui Conservation has declared a Level 1 Low Water Condition across the Cataraqui Region, stretching from Napanee to Brockville and north to Newboro, due to well-below-average July rainfall. The region received just 23 per cent of its typical precipitation last month, and monitored inland streams are flowing below average, with many triggering low water thresholds. Water Resources Technologist Mallory Wright says without significant rainfall, the Level 1 status will remain, and conditions could escalate to Level 2 by early September.
A Level 1 Low Water Condition is the first of three levels, indicating the potential for water supply issues. Residents relying on groundwater, lakes, or streams are urged to voluntarily conserve water—limiting outdoor watering, reducing non-essential use, repairing leaks, and avoiding vehicle and driveway washing. Boaters are also advised to use caution, as low water levels may expose shoals and hidden hazards.
