Violence in Ontario schools is rising fast. More than 4,400 violent incidents were reported last year—a 77 per cent jump since 2018.
Education workers and parents say the numbers show a system in crisis. Many classrooms lack the staff and resources needed to keep students safe and supported.
The Ford government is pushing Bill 33, which would bring more police into schools. But critics say this isn’t the answer.
They are calling for more funding for frontline education workers, mental health services, and programs that prevent violence before it starts.
“Behind every number is a student struggling and a worker reaching a breaking point,” one organizer said.
Advocates say students deserve a safe place to learn, and staff deserve respect on the job.
They are urging the province to act now with real solutions—not more policing in schools.
