The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) shared updates from its August 26th board meeting, highlighting both summer programming and major capital priorities.
This year’s Summer Learning Program welcomed 165 students from Grades 1 to 6 across four sites. Led by qualified educators, EAs, and consultants, the program focused on closing literacy and numeracy gaps with targeted instruction and small-group support. Assessments showed steady academic gains, with primary students strengthening foundational reading and math skills, and junior students improving fluency, comprehension, and writing. Faith and Indigenous learning were integrated throughout, alongside social-emotional and experiential activities. Additional initiatives included a Skilled Trades Camp for girls, engaging 81 participants, and a secondary e-learning program with 1,180 registrations and a 94 per cent success rate.
The board also reviewed $24 million in Capital Priority projects, including additions at St. Mother Teresa, St. Thomas Aquinas CHS, Notre Dame CHS, and St. Gregory Catholic School, which will add 33 classrooms for 762 students. Several projects are already underway, with completion expected by 2027.
