The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has reported the death of Yohanna Chol, a 39-year-old inmate at Joyceville Institution, on October 10, 2025. Chol had been serving a life sentence since February 27, 2025.
CSC confirmed that the inmate’s next of kin have been notified. In accordance with standard procedures, the police and coroner have also been informed.
As with all deaths in custody, the CSC will conduct a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding Chol’s passing. Authorities emphasize that the investigation aims to determine the cause of death and ensure that proper protocols and safety measures were followed during the inmate’s time in custody.
