The First Poppy of the year has been presented to longtime Legion member Carl Duff outside Royal Canadian Legion Branch 92 in Gananoque.
Duff served with the Canadian Army in Germany soon after the Second World War as part of Canada’s NATO commitment. After leaving the military, he worked as a Canadian civil servant and has been an active volunteer at the Legion for decades.
A life member of Branch 92, Duff served on the Gananoque colour party for more than 20 years and continues to help with the Legion’s monthly brunches and by driving veterans to medical appointments.
He will be out again on November 1, helping to distribute poppies and collect donations for the annual Poppy Fund.
Poppies are available at several local businesses, with all proceeds supporting veterans, RCMP members, and their families in need through the National Poppy Campaign.
