Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Gananoque and the surrounding region, warning motorists to prepare for hazardous conditions throughout the morning.
Lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario is expected to bring up to 5 centimetres of accumulation, with locally higher amounts possible.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced in bursts of heavy snow, particularly along the Highway 401 corridor.
The snow is forecast to mix with or change to rain near midday or early afternoon as temperatures rise. Until then, drivers can expect slippery roads and reduced visibility.
Travel plans should be adjusted accordingly, as poor weather may contribute to transportation delays and difficult driving conditions.
Surfaces such as highways, walkways, and parking lots may quickly become snow-covered and slippery.
Motorists are urged to slow down, maintain a safe following distance, and use extra caution when travelling through affected areas.
