The Thousand Islands Association (TIA) is inviting boaters and property owners to support safe navigation in Canadian waters through its “Sponsor a Shoal Marker” Program. Each year, TIA places nearly 200 shoal markers between the eastern tip of Howe Island and Brockville, helping boaters avoid underwater hazards. Over time, markers can break down due to weather, water levels, and natural wear, creating the need for replacements.
For a fully tax-deductible donation of $500, supporters can designate a specific “Rock” marker as sponsored in their name. TIA will officially recognize each sponsored marker on its website, providing public acknowledgment of contributors’ support.
Founded in 1934 by former Gananoque Mayor George R. Webb, the association is a not-for-profit organization backed by hundreds of Canadian and American members who own property or boats in the Thousand Islands region, spanning from Kingston to east of Brockville on the Canadian side and from Cape Vincent to east of Alexandria Bay on the U.S. side.
