After several weeks of work a widely talked about part of the Town of Gananoque has come down. The pedestrian bridge in Gananoque has been removed after structural issues made the bridge unsafe for use. Gananoque Mayor John Beddows says the bridge was neglected for several years and deteriorated, which led to the demolition.
Beddows adds that we can all learn from this.
Council voted 4-3 in favor of the demolition, which has sparked plenty of outcry from residents, including a petition that had circulated in an effort to try and save the bridge. With bridge removed it has now provided a different view of the river over the current bridge for traffic and pedestrians in the town. Strong Brothers carried out the process of removing the structure.
