Starting January 1st of 2026 there will be new mandatory Carbon Monoxide Alarm regulations are going in place. Gananoque Deputy Fire Chief Andrew Kent tells us what those regulations are.
TLTI Fire Prevention Officer Doug Richardson says the easiest thing to do in your home is to be sure the alarms are working properly.
Kent says the alarm itself has not changed, but it is important to get an alarm that is certified to use in Canada
Richardson says for landlords they must provide a working alarm for their tenants and be sure you’re checking up on it as well.
it’s very important you get the right alarm that is compliant with the building code for your place of residence.
Kent also added, that this is about education and making sure residents in both municipalities have what they need to keep their families safe.
Residents are encouraged to review their current alarms, replace expired units, and plan ahead before the deadline. Reach out to your local fire department should you have any further questions.
