The Town of Gananoque is advising residents to take precautions as persistent deep cold has led to multiple reports of frozen water services and internal plumbing. Homeowners are encouraged to ensure indoor temperatures remain above 8ºC in areas containing water pipes and the water meter.
Running a continuous, steady stream of cold water about 5 mm wide can help prevent freezing. Residents are also advised to wrap vulnerable pipes—especially those near outside walls, crawl spaces, or attics—with foam insulation, and to seal any air leaks in homes and garages where pipes are located.
Following these tips can reduce the risk of frozen or burst pipes and costly repairs. For further information or assistance, residents are encouraged to contact the Town of Gananoque.
