The Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands Council has approved the construction of two new telecommunications towers at 469 Lower Oak Leaf Road and 1802 Outlet Road. The decision follows a public consultation process in line with the Township’s “Telecommunication Tower and Related Facilities Protocol” and federal regulations under Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s Radiocommunication Act.
Council confirmed that Kingston Online Services, the agent responsible for the towers, complied with all local consultation requirements. Letters of concurrence will be submitted to the agent for both sites, formally acknowledging adherence to Township protocols.
As part of the approval, the letters will also stipulate that if the towers are no longer required in the future, Kingston Online Services must remove them from the properties. Township officials emphasized that the consultation process ensures community input is considered while balancing the need for reliable communication infrastructure in the region. The approved towers are expected to support improved connectivity for residents and businesses across Leeds and Thousand Islands.
Construction and operational timelines have not yet been announced.
