Beth Matthews of Gananoque has long been committed to giving back to her community, particularly through her work with the Gananoque Girls Hockey Association. A lifelong resident of the town and owner of GAN Fitness, Matthews says she “just simply jumped in” to help as a volunteer coach—and is having a blast doing it.
Balancing family life with coaching can be challenging, but Matthews says the rewards far outweigh the struggles. Watching the girls grow, develop their skills, and gain confidence on the ice is the most fulfilling part of her volunteering experience.
Matthews credits growing up in a community rich with volunteer opportunities for inspiring her involvement. She encourages others to take the leap into volunteering, noting that being actively part of helping others succeed—whether in sports or other community programs—can be deeply rewarding and make a lasting impact.
Her message is clear: get involved and enjoy the journey
