The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is joining the celebration of Heritage Week, running through February 22, 2026, to showcase the region’s rich cultural, natural, and architectural heritage. Organized nationally by the Ontario Heritage Trust, Heritage Week encourages Canadians to explore and reflect on their local history and heritage.
Since 1974, the third Monday of February has marked Heritage Day in Canada. This year, the Township, in partnership with the Leeds and 1000 Islands Historical Society, is highlighting local cultural landmarks through interpretive signs displayed throughout the community. Residents and visitors can view these features on the Township’s social media pages.
An interactive map and photo gallery are also available on the Historical Society’s website, allowing the public to explore the stories behind the signs and learn more about the area’s historical significance. The initiative encourages everyone to engage with and celebrate their local heritage.
