Counties Council has approved its 2026 budget, raising property taxes by 2.46% over last year. The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville will collect $56.3 million from property owners to fund essential services and capital projects. Total expenditures are $160.5 million, including $40.4 million for infrastructure improvements.
Chief Administrative Officer Al Horsman said the budget focuses on long-term planning, affordable housing, better paramedic response, and public works. “We are also improving accessibility, communication, and climate resilience to support sustainable growth,” he said.
With no new provincial property assessment in 2026, the median non-waterfront home remains at $234,000. The tax increase will add roughly $25.95 to the county portion of property taxes.
Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke said the budget balances fiscal responsibility with future infrastructure needs and praised council and staff collaboration amid financial pressures.
