Global Affairs Canada is urging Canadians to avoid travel to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, as violence escalates following the death of a drug lord.
Shootouts, explosions and roadblocks are just some of the things the federal agency is warning about across parts of southwestern Mexico. Several flights from Canada bound for Puerto Vallarta turned around mid-air and returned home due to safety concerns.
Brenda Kendrick, who calls Eastern Ontario home is there at a resort with her husband, visiting family and says they’re safe. However trying to register through the government website to say they’re there has been horrible with a system that crashes, she says.
She adds that being together helps to deal with flight delays and uncertainty.
Originally supposed to fly out this past weekend, she says they remain patient and hope to return home in the next few days.
