This past Saturday, firefighters with the Gananoque Fire Department took part in ice and cold water rescue training to maintain operational readiness and public safety.
Ice and cold water incidents pose unique hazards, requiring specialized skills, equipment, and coordinated teamwork. Regular training ensures firefighters can respond quickly and effectively to emergencies on Gananoque’s waterways.
The department stressed that preparedness is crucial, as cold water rescues can be dangerous without proper techniques and equipment.
Officials thanked the community for its ongoing support, noting that these exercises are essential to keeping local waterways safe and ensuring residents can rely on the fire department in emergency situations.
Additional training sessions are planned throughout the winter to reinforce skills and readiness.
