The Howe Island County-operated ferry docks rehabilitation project continues this week, with the first full service closure set to begin Monday night.
County officials say the ferry will be fully closed from 10 p.m. Monday, March 2 until 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5 as crews complete rehabilitation work on docks at both the island and mainland terminals.
Construction is expected to wrap up by April 30, 2026.
During scheduled closures, the Township’s three-car ferry will remain in extended operation to ensure residents can travel to and from the island. A mainland detour route has been established and is clearly marked with signage.
Meanwhile, the island-side parking area remains closed for the duration of the project. Officials say the closure is necessary to keep the dry hydrant, boat launch, and nearby private laneways clear of construction equipment and activity.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during the rehabilitation period.
