The Upper Canada District School Board Student Senate has elected two Grade 10 students as its 2026-2027 Student Trustees.
Ava Andress of Thousand Islands Secondary School and Grant Emmell of South Grenville District High School were chosen during an election held Feb. 26. They will serve as co-chairs of the Student Senate and begin their term Aug. 1.
Ten candidates from 10 schools took part in the vote. Each gave a speech and answered questions before ballots were cast.
Andress said she wants students to feel heard and supported. Emmell said he is committed to equal opportunity for all students.
Student Trustees attend board meetings and take part in provincial events with the Ontario Student Trustees’ Association – l’Association des élèves conseillers et conseillères de l’Ontario.
Vice-chair Lynda Johnston said the trustees bring an important student voice to the board.
