Local high school students across Ontario held a province-wide walkout protesting the recent OSAP cuts. In Gananoque this past Friday afternoon, several students held a peacefull protest briefly in front of Town Hall in Gananoque. Organizer Onyx Millar was happy with the turn out.
Millar talks about what they are hoping to accomplish.
Changes to Ontario’s student financial aid program will shift more support toward loans instead of grants. Starting this fall, students will receive a maximum of 25 per cent of OSAP funding as grants.
The move follows a $6.4 billion funding boost to colleges and universities and the end of a seven-year tuition freeze.
Student groups say the changes will leave many with more debt and could price others out of post-secondary education.
