A 33-year-old Elgin man is facing multiple charges after an early morning incident on Highway 15. Leeds County OPP say officers found a vehicle idling on the shoulder shortly after 12:30 a.m. on March 13, with the driver asleep at the wheel.
When officers woke the driver, he allegedly put the vehicle in gear and fled the scene. Police located the same vehicle idling a short distance away moments later and arrested the driver.
Following an evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert, the accused was charged with impaired operation, flight from police, failing to wear a seatbelt, and having open liquor in the vehicle.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville on May 1.
