Construction is continuing on the Howe Island County Ferry docks, involving rehabilitation work on both the island and mainland sides. The project is scheduled for completion by April 30, 2026. To maintain safe and efficient access, a mainland detour route has been established and is clearly marked with signage.
The Township’s three-car ferry will continue operating in extended service during closures to ensure residents and visitors can travel to and from the island. However, the island-side parking area will remain closed for the duration of construction to keep the dry hydrant, boat launch, and private laneways clear of equipment and work activities.
Residents and visitors should note the remaining planned ferry service interruptions, including 64-hour full closures from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on April 6–9 and April 13–16, 2026. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and follow detour signage to minimize delays.
