Cataraqui Conservation has extended its Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety, warning residents and visitors about high flows on inland lakes and streams.
Recent rainfall, including up to 31 mm in the Kingston area on March 31, combined with forecasted rain through April 5, has increased streamflows to roughly 1.5 times normal for early April. Although flooding is not expected, runoff from saturated ground may cause localized low-lying areas to be inundated.
Water managers are adjusting dam discharges to maintain target water levels and prepare for summer recreation. Residents are urged to exercise caution around fast-flowing watercourses, dams, and hydroelectric stations, and to stay well back from creek banks and lake shorelines, which may be slippery. Warning signs, booms, and barriers should be respected.
